While growing up - island children..., the outdoors was ours to explore. There was no specific adult monitoring us and we were free to wander and explore as we chose. Friends were ours to make and the games we created were fun and filled our days. The ocean, the river, the fields were ours to explore. Fresh fruit was picked straight from the trees and enjoyed on the spot. And in a few cases, we crossed boundaries and raided gardens and orchards where the temptation was just too great because the bounty beckoned. An age of innocence and creativity that followed us into adulthood and defined the who, how and what we became and achieved.
These days are long gone. Change happened and in some ways life has improved. In particular, I really love the way the internet has connected the world.
In reminiscing, the things I miss most of yesteryear include the easy trust and acceptance that came from all around. I miss the joy of knowing that I belong to a community and that my children are looked after with the utmost care by persons in my community.
...but that is change. We grow, we evolve and we end up more experienced in a lot of different ways.

In my case, what I think fondly about is swinging off the branches of coconut trees at the top of a hill. So much fun - freedom...

Now I would think as an adult, so risky! You could break a limb! And yes one of my cousins did fall off... but we continued...
However, time changes us! I am a cautious adult...
