Embrace the Lessons Life teaches us

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

There are no mistakes in life, only lessons.
There is no such thing as a negative experience, only opportunities to grow, learn and advance along the road of selfmastery.
From struggle comes strength. Even pain can be a wonderful teacher.
~ Robin Sharma

There is always something that can be learnt from a bad experience. If you can learn to accept negative events and mistakes as learning opportunities, then you will feel more confident in taking chances, be more self-assured and your life experiences will be more rewarding.

Do not feel bad about something that you did wrong or incorrectly. Look for the lesson that you can learn. There is always the opportunity for you to improve, learn a new skill or spend more time in perfecting what you already know, so you will not make the same mistake again!

Mistakes can be great learning opportunities and if we can accept them as such we will grow and become better.

Some people refuse to admit that they make mistakes and look at others as the ones who did wrong or they will tell you that it was just bad luck. Instead of using these mistakes as learning opportunities, they make excuses, justify the action taken and can even blame others. These people have yet to learn to accept responsibility for themselves and for their actions.

When you do something wrong or something doesn't quite work out the way you want, there are ways of managing it so that you learn the lesson, move on from it, and grow stronger in the process.

The three approaches to life listed below can help you increase your confidence and handle yourself with maturity as you get to know yourself better and interact with others.

Know that mistakes can happen

To be human is to be prone to making mistakes. Each and every one of us will end up doing some things that we will regret while we travel through this life. We may make a wrong decision or hurt someone’s feelings. Embrace these opportunities as valuable life lessons and use them for personal growth and development. Learn from these mistakes so you can act better if presented with a similar situation in the future.

Experience is a hard teacher and forces us to grow, so ensure that you listen and take appropriate action when these valuable lessons are presented.

Look for areas of improvement in your life

Have you ever felt bad after you have participated in talking “bad” about someone else? If yes, then learn to listen to your “inner self”. Let it guide you in ways you can improve.

If you do not like the way you feel, then know that this is an area for improvement. Work on strengthening your character and in taking positive actions as needed.

In other words, ask yourself the question – how would I feel if I was at the receiving end? And if you do not like how you feel, then do something about it - change it!

Don't just act.

Look at:

what you are doing

ask yourself why you are doing it,

how do you feel,

and

how do you make others feel.

If you are aware of how your actions impact others, then you can determine whether that is enhancing or hurting your relationships and be able to improve these areas in your life.

Be kind, words can hurt. Take the time to think before uttering words that can cause much damage to a relationship you cherish. We all can have difficulty expressing what we really mean sometimes, so do think first before you say words that can hurt someone else.

Take ownership of your life – it’s your responsibility

There is always something to be learned or improved on when you make a mistake or when you are involved in a misunderstanding – take responsibility for your actions. If you were wrong, then admit that you were – yes, this can be hard but it shows maturity, courage and strength of character.

Even if the other person was wrong, there is something that can be learnt there as well. It could be choosing your friends wisely or it could be not engaging in speculation – the lesson is there if you take the time to find it and to learn from it.

When you accept responsibility and take ownership of your life and actions, you demonstrate maturity and display the highest level of respect for yourself and others.

You are setting yourself up for success and empowering yourself to create a richer, more meaningful life.

Be motivated!

You are a divine being. You matter, you count.
You come from realms of unimaginable power and light, and you will return to those realms.
~ Terence McKenna
